What’s happening?
In the Washwood Heath area of Birmingham, works to accommodate the arrival of HS2 will be ongoing over the next decade and shortly gather momentum. These works include the demolition and reconstruction of both Saltley Viaduct and Aston Church Road overbridge, with the latter works scheduled to commence later in 2024.
The Saltley Viaduct works will begin upon completion of the Aston Church Road works. A new bridge will be constructed to carry the high speed train over the Lawley Middleway dual carriageway.
The first area of works will be begin in the area with the creation of a brand new bridge to carry the high speed train across the dual carriageway.

Alum Rock Road
Emergency repairs to a sewer pipe will occur from Monday 24 June until mid-August 2024, requiring a road closure on Alum Rock Road between Woodwells Road and Sladefield Road.
During this period, parking will be temporarily suspended. To facilitate the works, please ensure no vehicles are parked in the affected area.
Pedestrian walkways will remain open.
Bus services NX 14 and 28 will be diverted as follows:
Service 28 to Scott Arms
Belchers Lane, right Cotterills Lane, continue Cotterills Lane, 2nd exit Stechford Lane and normal line of route.
Service 28 from Great Barr
Alum Rock Road, left Burney Lane 3rd exit Cotterills Lane, left Belchers Lane, and normal line of route.
Service 14 to Birmingham
Burney Lane, right Alum Rock Road, left Washwood Heath Road, left Sladefield Road continue to Pelham Roundabout and normal line of route.
Service 14 to Chelmsley Wood
Alum Rock Road, at Pelham Roundabout right Belchers Lane, then at Bordesley Green roundabout (McDonalds) left Bordesley Green East, at Stechford Police Station crossroads turn left into Station Road then continue to Belchers Lane roundabout U-turn and normal line of route.
A clear road diversion will in place for vehicles. Please observe the diversions and allow extra time for your journey.
Travel tips
You will still be able to get to where you need to go, but consider the following:
