Gritting

Local authorities always keep an eye on weather forecasts and temperatures. In the event that they drop to zero degrees or below, winter maintenance or gritting teams are out from early hours, ensuring major routes are gritted in time, to keep everyone moving safely.

Local authorities take care of gritting on:

National Highways take care of gritting on motorways.

We grit our park and ride sites and bus stations to help make your journeys in severe weather as easy as possible. However we encourage you to take extra care when walking on these sites. Some surfaces may still be slippy and ice can reform even after gritting if it's wet or raining.

Find out which roads have been gritted in your area on your local authority's website:

You can search #WMGRIT on social media to keep up to date with gritting in your local area.
