Aldridge Station

We're working on plans to deliver a new station at Aldridge that aims to better connect the town and reduce congestion on the roads.

In May 2023, the Department for Transport gave conditional approval for us to start work on an outline business case for the station.

We are working on the next, more detailed, design phase of development alongside our partners. This includes undertaking detailed surveys of the station site.

The proposal

The current plans are for a single platform station to be built on the edge of Aldridge town centre. The station would provide rail travel to the local community for the first time in nearly 60 years. This will have a wide range of benefits such as:

  • Reduced congestion on the roads
  • Encouraging greener alternatives to the car
  • Making it easier to travel for work, education or leisure

Our proposed facilities include:

  • Seating and shelters
  • Car parking for rail users
  • Passenger drop off and pick up zone
  • Ticket purchasing facilities
  • Real-time information boards
  • CCTV

The station would be located next to Anchor Meadows Medical Practice on Westfield Drive. As part of our planning we're reviewing accessible walking routes between the station and Aldridge town centre.

The station would be part of the Sutton Park Line, which is currently only used by freight.

Initially, we plan for there to be a train service between Aldridge and Walsall. Passengers will have the opportunity to connect to trains from Walsall to Birmingham.

Please note: Station design is subject to further development and approval
